🔬 Research
Academy research priorities, tech tree planning, and which branches pay off fastest.
Research is the least visible system in the game and the one with the highest long-run return. Nothing about a completed technology feels like progress in the moment: no new building appears, no power number jumps dramatically. But research multiplies everything you do afterward, and a queue left idle overnight is compounding growth you can never recover.
The Academy splits into branches that pay off on wildly different timescales. Development is the branch that funds the rest of your account and should almost never be idle in the early game. Military is the branch that decides whether your marches win, and it becomes the priority once you are fighting real players rather than zombies. Knowing which to run — and which to skip — is most of the skill here.
These guides cover the Academy's branch priorities, the Development tree in depth, and the Military tree that wins wars. Research also scores heavily during event phases, so the banking discipline covered in the events guides applies here more than anywhere else in the game.
