Age of Origins Tower Defense Level 17: 3-Star Guide (Normal & Hard)

Tower defense level 17 in Age of Origins: the armored zombie check, Laser positioning that actually ramps, and balancing anti-armor against swarm control.

Quick Answer

  • Level 17 is the campaign's armor exam: yellow-health-bar zombies that shrug off everything except Lasers.
  • The trap is overcorrecting — going Laser-heavy and getting flooded by the normal waves 16 taught you to respect. You need both answers on one map.
  • Laser placement is the level. Lasers ramp damage over lock-time, so they go on maximum-walking-time lanes, behind slows, and they don't switch targets well — position so armor walks to them.
  • Two Lasers on Hard; one can carry Normal if it's leveled and well-placed.
  • "Easy 3-star" clears exist for both difficulties — the level is a knowledge check, and this page is the knowledge.

Armor Changes the Question

The armored zombie — yellow health bar, unbothered expression — has appeared before 17, but this is the level where the game asks the question at volume and flunks everyone who cruised through the teens on Rockets alone. The mechanic, from the main guide, is blunt: armored units effectively require Laser damage. Rockets tickle them, Machine Guns embarrass themselves, and every armored survivor that reaches the exit is a life gone.

So the naive fix is obvious and wrong: sell into Lasers, stack anti-armor, done. Then the regular swarms — still here, still dense — stroll through a kill zone that no longer splashes. Level 17's real test is running two damage economies simultaneously without starving either.

The Dual Build

Think of the map as two overlaid problems with separate budgets:

Swarm control (the 16 kit, slightly trimmed): Rockets at the overlap, EMPs feeding them slowed packs. This half handles 90% of the body count and cannot be gutted to fund Lasers — trim one Rocket level if you must, never a Rocket.

Armor disposal (the new spend): Lasers on the armor lane, and their placement decides the run:

  1. Maximum walking time. Laser DPS grows the longer it holds one target. A Laser covering a long straight stretch kills armor a Laser covering a corner never will.
  2. Behind slows. An EMP'd armored zombie in Laser range is a solved armored zombie. Your slow coverage does double duty here — position at least one EMP where it catches the armor lane, not just the Rocket zone.
  3. Don't make Lasers multitask. A Laser that keeps re-targeting swarm chaff resets its ramp and never reaches killing damage on the armor behind. Placement that isolates the Laser's lane from the main swarm flood keeps its lock clean.

Normal clears with one committed, leveled Laser plus the dual structure. Hard wants two — armor arrives in pairs and clusters there, and one ramping beam can't service a queue.

The Equipment Power Tell

Lasers scale from Equipment power, which makes 17 the level where your gear progression gets audited. If your Laser is well-placed, slowed targets are holding lock, and armor still walks — that's not placement, that's an Equipment power shortfall, and the equipment guide plus the Infinite Zombies blueprint routine is the actual fix. Conveniently, the endless mode's Laser-heavy layout means the same investment pays twice.

Run Shape

Open Machine Guns, transition Rockets, get the first EMP down before the waves thicken — the standard curve. The 17-specific decision is when the first Laser lands: too early starves your swarm core, too late means the first armor cluster leaks while you're building the answer. The comfortable line on Normal is placing the Laser as mid-run income arrives, before armor density peaks; on Hard, sequence it earlier and accept a slightly leaner Rocket core, compensating with EMP levels.

Leak reading, updated for armor: mid-map swarm leaks are still a slow gap (16's diagnostic applies unchanged); armor leaking specifically means Laser lane, Laser level, or Equipment power, in that order of likelihood.

Clear it clean and pocket the stars — level 18 stops testing your towers and starts testing your wallet discipline.
